IVF SUPPORT ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture for Embryo Transfer
Pre and post-embryo transfer acupuncture is one of the most time-sensitive and frequently requested services at MRA. We absolutely understand the urgency and are very good at accommodating short-notice bookings for every transfer appointment. We routinely see people on the day of transfer who are new to the clinic or traveling for their embryo transfer.
When to book your acupuncture appointments to support your embryo transfer
IVF CYCLE TIMING
Timing of acupuncture appointments around your embryo transfer is an important part of our approach.
Here’s when we suggest having treatment to best support you through the transfer process, and why each appointment is relevant.
Pre Embryo Transfer
Within 24 hours before
The most evidence-aligned timing for pre-transfer acupuncture. Focuses on uterine blood flow, reducing cortisol and preparing the body for implantation. Book as soon as you have a confirmed transfer date.
Post Embryo Transfer
Within 24 hours after
Post-transfer acupuncture focuses on calming the nervous system, reducing anxiety during the early implantation window, and supporting relaxation. Avoid strong activating points; gentle supportive treatment only.
3-5 Days Post Transfer
Support Implantation
After your embryo transfer, we often recommend an additional acupuncture treatment 3–5 days later to continue supporting implantation. This session focuses on promoting healthy blood flow to the uterus, calming the nervous system, and supporting the body during the early stages of implantation.
Transfer day is one of the most emotionally loaded moments of an IVF journey. Many patients tell us that acupuncture is as much about having somewhere calm to be and someone looking after them as it is about the treatment itself. We understand that transfer day can be stressful, so we provide a calm, supportive environment, work around your clinic’s schedule and welcome partners or support people. If your transfer is cancelled at short notice, we’ll reschedule or cancel your appointment without hassle.

Common questions about embryo transfer acupuncture
-
Within 24 hours before and/or after transfer is the most evidence-aligned timing. If that's not possible, within 48 hours is still worthwhile. Don't skip it entirely because the timing isn't perfect, contact us and we'll get you in as close to your transfer date as possible.

Not too late at all, call or email us on (03) 9132 0287. We prioritise transfer appointments and will do our best to get you in.

Both is ideal if possible. Pre-transfer acupuncture focuses on uterine preparation and reducing the stress response heading into the procedure. Post-transfer focuses on calming the nervous system during the early implantation window and managing anxiety during the two-week wait. If you can only choose one, post-transfer is generally the priority and is particularly valuable if anxiety is your main concern.

A growing body of research supports acupuncture as a meaningful complement to IVF, particularly around transfer day. Studies have demonstrated that acupuncture can improve uterine blood flow, regulate the stress response, and support hormonal balanc all factors that contribute to a receptive environment for implantation.
While findings across large-scale trials vary, several meta-analyses have reported improved clinical pregnancy rates when acupuncture is performed close to embryo transfer. What is consistently well-supported is acupuncture's ability to reduce cortisol levels and anxiety, which is significant given that the stress of IVF itself can impact outcomes.
Many fertility specialists and reproductive clinics now recommend acupuncture as part of a integrative approach to IVF — not as a guarantee, but as a evidence-informed way to support your body and your wellbeing on one of the most important days of your journey.
