MENSTRUAL & HORMONAL HEALTH

Acupuncture for PCOS

PMOS/PCOS is a whole-body hormonal condition it can affect your cycle, ovulation, metabolism, skin, mood and more, and no two people experience it the same way. That's why a tailored approach matters. Chinese medicine treatment and acupuncture is shaped around your particular symptoms, cycle and goals and treats the whole person.

ABOUT PCOS

What acupuncture offers for
PCOS often in our clinic

PCOS, recently renamed as PMOS, is a complex hormonal and metabolic condition with significant variation between patients. Some have predominantly androgenic symptoms, others have insulin related patterns, and many are primarily concerned with its impact on their menstrual cycle and fertility. We tailor our approach based on your specific presentation.

The evidence for acupuncture in PMOS/PCOS is promising, particularly for reducing LH/FSH ratios, supporting ovulation frequency and improving cycle regularity. Some research also supports its use for the psychological symptoms of PMOS/PCOS, including anxiety, low mood and body image concerns, which are often under addressed in conventional management.

Not yet diagnosed, but suspect PCOS?

You don't need a diagnosis to get started. Chinese medicine focus on somebodies symptoms rather than the diagnosis so if you're experiencing irregular cycles, absent periods or difficulty conceiving, we can begin treatment at any stage.

HOW WE CAN HELP

What we focus on in your treatment

Cycle Regulation

Supporting regular ovulation and consistent cycle length is important for both wellbeing and fertility planning. This is one of the most common areas of focus for our PMOS patients.

Stress and Mental Health

PMOS has well-documented links to anxiety and depression. Acupuncture's nervous system and cortisol-modulating effects can support emotional wellbeing alongside the physical symptoms.

Ovulation Support

Many PMOS patients are ovulating late in their cycle or not knowing if they are ovulating at all. Acupuncture aims to support follicular development and ovulatory function.

Metabolic Support

Insulin resistance is central to PMOS for many women, even those at a healthy weight. Research suggests acupuncture can support insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism, making it a valuable addition alongside diet and exercise.

Fertility Preparation

For PMOS patients trying to conceive, whether naturally, with Clomid/letrozole, or through IVF, we can support the cycle preparation phase and work alongside your fertility clinic's protocol.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Herbal formulas can play a valuable role in PCOS management, particularly for cycle regulation and hormonal balance. See our Chinese Herbal Medicine page for more.
