Acupuncture for
Endometriosis

Endometriosis affects one in nine women in Australia, and many live with significant pain, fatigue and fertility challenges for years before receiving adequate support. Acupuncture can work alongside your medical management, with a focus on easing pain, improving quality of life and supporting emotional wellbeing through what can be a long and draining condition to manage.

OUR APPROACH

What acupuncture offers
for endometriosis

Chinese medicine works from a different paradigm than Western medicine but it's a coherent, complete system of medicine in its own right. For chronic disease and long-standing pain in particular, looking at your health through this different lens can offer genuinely valuable insight.

Modern science doesn't yet have a single, settled explanation for how acupuncture works and with a condition as complex as endometriosis, that's perhaps fitting. The body is many systems working together, and research suggests acupuncture likely engages several of them at once: nervous, circulatory, endocrine and immune.

Acupuncture points sit in areas rich in nerve endings and fine blood vessels. Needling them appears to stimulate local microcirculation and send signals through the nervous system that reach well beyond the needle itself. Studies indicate this may activate neurohormonal pathways and prompt the release of the body's own regulating chemicals endorphins and enkephalins (natural pain-relievers), serotonin, dopamine, GABA and norepinephrine.

For endometriosis, three of these effects are particularly relevant. Improved pelvic blood flow may ease the muscle tension and guarding that builds around persistent pain. Acupuncture's apparent influence on inflammatory processes matters in a condition where inflammation drives both pain and the bloating and bowel symptoms that come with it. And its calming effect on the nervous system may help with pain sensitisation, the way a nervous system that has been in pain for months or years becomes quicker to produce it.

SYMPTOM SUPPORT

What we help
manage in the clinic

Pelvic Pain

Endometriosis can cause pelvic pain through inflammation, pelvic muscle tension and increased sensitivity in the nervous system. Acupuncture may help reduce pain sensitivity and ease muscle tension.

Endo Flare Support

Acupuncture's nervous system and cortisol-modulating effects can support emotional wellbeing alongside the physical symptoms.

Painful periods

Severe period pain associated with endometriosis often responds well to acupuncture, with sessions timed to the menstrual and late luteal phases.

Fertility

Endometriosis is one of the leading causes of infertility. We offer dedicated fertility support for endo patients trying to conceive naturally or through IVF.

Fatigue

Endo-related fatigue is a significant quality-of-life issue that is often under treated. Chinese medicine addresses underlying energy depletion patterns directly.

Post Surgical Recovery

Acupuncture can support recovery following laparoscopic surgery by promoting tissue healing, reducing inflammation and managing residual pain.

Mental Health

Living with chronic pain takes a psychological toll. Acupuncture's nervous system effects can help reduce anxiety, improve sleep and support emotional regulation.

Pain in Bowel and Bladder

Deep infiltrating endometriosis affecting the bowel or bladder is complex. We work alongside your specialist and can offer supportive care for associated symptoms.

Every endometriosis patient presents differently. We take a thorough history at your first appointment, understanding your diagnosis, symptom pattern, current management and goals, before tailoring a treatment plan.

We're experienced in working with patients who have had long and difficult diagnostic journeys. We take the condition seriously and won't minimise your symptoms.
